Permanent Part-Time Youth Services Assistant

Applications will be accepted through noon, February 12, 2023.

 

Permanent part-time position with 6 months probationary period. Salary range is $11.00 - $13.00 per hour.  Includes IPERS and pro-rated benefits for paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.  May work up to 29.5 hours per week.

The Atlantic Library, a department of the City of Atlantic, is looking for a Youth Services Assistant.  This position assists with the Youth Services department, youth-related reference responsibilities, programming, and outreach.  This position performs front line tasks related to circulation of library materials and patron customer service including, but not limited to, readers' advisory and helping patrons locate library materials.  The position provides consistent, courteous and sincere customer service to patrons and library staff at all times.

Minimal requirements are as follows:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • Preference given to experience working with youth.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.
  • Organize and prioritize work, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimum direction.
  • Basic skills in windows 10, Microsoft, & Outlook.  The ability to learn other software programs as required.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally, electronically and in writing both with the public and other employees effectively.
  • Lift at least 40 lbs.  Push loaded carts up to 300 lbs.
  • Handle high stress situations if they arise and handle conflict if presented.
