Seasonal Part-Time Groundskeeper

The City of Atlantic is looking to fill a part-time postion of assisting with day-day operations with Park and Recreation.  The position is seasonal (May-August) and would be up to 40 hours per week.  Must be self-motivated, punctual, work well with others or alone. Be a team player. Willing to handle any task big or small.

The groundskeepers are responsible for maintaining the landscape of all parks in the City of Atlantic. Essential duties include but are not limited to mowing, removing weeds, trimming shrubs, planting new greenery and removing unwanted trees, maintaining walking trails, and other jobs identified at the discretion of the Parks and Recreation Director.

Minimal requirements are as follows:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work independently
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff and visitors to the facility

Essential functions are as follows:

  • Plant, prune, trim, fertilize and water plants, shrubs, flowers, trees
  • Remove leaves, brush, debris, trash and litter from parks
  • Empties trash cans from park recepticles
  • Prepare athletic fields
  • Maintain park facilities
  • Perform light excavation, using shovels, picks and other tools to dig trenches and level ground
  • Assists and shares in the weekend maintenance of the park shelters and restrooms
  • Performs heavy labor in the field as required to assist the Mowers and Groundskeepers
